Standard paper element oil filter for the smart fortwo (98-07) , 452 roadsters and  fortwo 451 diesel

During engine operation, by-products of the combustion process such as soot and carbon escape into the engine oil. These abrasive particles can cause extensive damage to engine components if not removed efficiently. The oil filter is also responsible for retaining other damaging contaminants that can enter the engine through inneficient oil filler cap, engine breather and dip-stick seals.
